Oral Treatments & Procedures

Oral surgery refers to the surgical treatment of disease, injuries, and defects involving the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth, and jaw.

While you may do everything in your power to maintain your smile with brushing, flossing, and routine dental care, dental problems can still arise. Advanced gum (periodontal) disease, traumatic injuries, or severe tooth damage or decay can make oral surgery necessary.

If we recommend oral surgery, we will explain each step of the procedure in plain language. Additionally, we offer dental sedation, so you don't have to worry about feeling any pain or discomfort as the procedure is being performed.

After your surgery, your dentist will provide detailed post-operative instructions you'll need to follow during your recovery. You'll also be prescribed pain medication to help alleviate any soreness.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that's inserted into the jaw bone beneath the gum tissue to replace a natural tooth root. Your dentist will surgically place the implant into the jaw bone as part of the process of replacing a missing tooth. Paired with a tooth replacement the implant will look and feel similar to your natural teeth.

Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction is a procedure to remove a tooth that has become too decayed, diseased, or damaged. While it is always preferable to save a natural tooth, if less invasive treatments will not be effective, an extraction may be necessary to restore and maintain your oral health. After the procedure, your dentist may discuss tooth replacement options with you, which may include crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a typical adult mouth. While they can emerge without causing issues, in some cases they may not have enough room to erupt properly, which can cause problems with tooth alignment and oral hygiene. Your dentist may remove them to help maintain your oral health.

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts

If you need a dental implant but your jaw has started to deteriorate, a bone graft may help strengthen it enough to support the implant. If you need a dental implant in the molar and premolar areas, a sinus lift may be performed to add bone to the upper back jaw to increase volume in the sinus area to support the implant.

Gum Grafts

A gum graft can help cover exposed tooth roots, correct the effects of gum recession, and reduce associated symptoms, including visibly shrinking gums, severe tooth sensitivity and loose teeth. To perform this surgery, your dentist will remove tissue from the roof of the mouth and transplant it to another area of your gums.

Frenectomy

The frenum connects your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gums. We perform frenectomies on patients of all ages whose frenum is restricting the movement of the mouth and tongue, referred to as tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied. The frenum can be surgically altered to increase the range of motion of your mouth or tongue.
